Did you know that Platinum is 30 times rarer than gold? It has an annual production of only 175 tons which is only 6% of the annual production of gold.
During 2011 platinum will begin to perform well in the commodity markets for two reasons. Firstly, although the Chinese car industry (which is huge) presently uses palladium for its catalysts this has enhanced the value of palladium to the point that it is now not so much cheaper than platinum. Platinum does the job better and so if more economically viable then it will become a strong investment possibility. Secondly the Chinese absolutely love platinum jewellery. The sales for such jewellery in 2009 was 2.08 million ounces!
